Welcome To Sierra Vista Farms |
We are a family farm, Organic Certified by the
State of Colorado,
growing eating and seed garlic as our main crop. A great way to grow hardneck garlic
is often over looked by gardeners and farmers alike; growing them from bulbils (topset
bulblets). Yes, it can take up to three years from bulbil to bulb (most hardnecks only
take two years). We added bulbils to our Catalog this Spring! Sierra
Vista Farms has been growing garlic from bulbils for several years, as a rapid way to expand
a variety. We also have "Rounds" available (one and two year old bulbils).
Our Rounds are planted and grown just like cloves from bulbs. (Rounds will produce
small and medium bulbs the first year. They are shaped like onion sets and about
the same size; they do vary.)
In 2007 we test planted four types of Shallots: Dutch Red and Dutch Yellow, Irish
Shallots and Greeley (a red heirloom variety from Greeley, Colorado). When Spring planted,
Shallots will increase by a factor of four to six. When Fall planted, shallots increase
by a factor of six to fourteen. (Only a few increased by fourteen; the majority
increased on an average by eight or nine.) Shallots store much better than standard
types of onions. Our test storage over the Winter of 2007/2008 shows Shallots will store
until Spring with very little loss. This is a perfect home garden vegetable.
When you harvest Shallots, set aside the larger ones for eating and replant the smaller ones.
(Small seed Shallots produce a mix of large and small shallots.)
Sierra Vista Farms sells asparagus plants (Mary Washington) and rhubarb plants (Victoria).
Plants are dug as orders are received; you'll always get fresh dug roots.
FREE SHIPPING: There are no hidden charges at Sierra Vista Farms! All garlic,
shallot, egyptian walking onion, asparagus plant and rhubarb plant prices include shipping.
Seed and eating shallots are
being expanded to meet a growing demand; both yellow shallots and red shallots.
Currently Sierra Vista Farms only ships to the continential United States.

| On July 29th, 2008, Sierra Vista Farms
completed Organic Certification via the State of
Colorado. We have always used Organic methods on our farm, Certification was the
logical next step. The land we use is new to farming; for the last one hundred
and fifty years it has only been used for grazing cattle and sheep. We started to farm
portions of our property in 2002 and added the New Meadow in 2006. This year, 2008, we
are expanding the New Meadow by an additional five acres. |
| As you brouse our Catalog, for your convienence
we have included Shipping in all listed prices. This should make it easier to know the
real cost of each item. We hope this feature meets with your approval! |
